Most communities do not have permits or ordinances in place specifically designed for small wind turbines. However this is changing rapidly, and many local communities are quickly implementing new small wind turbine ordinances to help facilitate approvals for Windspire installations. Mariah Power has created an example of
Small Wind Zoning Ordinance for your reference. The ordinances typically include height and noise requirements, as well as specified setbacks from public streets and easements. Some municipalities still require special use permits. The Windspire was designed to fit under most local height restrictions (national building code is 35 feet, and the Windspire is 30 feet tall) and it operates silently so you can rest assured it will not exceed noise requirements or raise the ire of your neighbors.
