Doing Your Research: Your Energy
There is often confusion between the terms "power" and "energy." Power gives an instantaneous measure of how much electricity your Windspire® is producing, or your appliances are drawing, at any given time. When winds gust high, the Windspire will produce lots of power, for that instant.
More important to most people is energy - this is what you pay your electricity bills in. Energy is the sum of power produced (or consumed) over a time period, and it is measured in kilowatt-hours (kWh). The Windspire wind turbine produces instantaneous kilowatts (kW) of electricity that can be measured over time in kilowatt hours(kWh). The Windspire will produce about 2000 kWhs of energy annually in 12mph average winds.
To better understand how these metrics relate to your power needs, we suggest you consult your electric bills to determine your current energy (kWh) consumption. Your usage will most likely vary depending on time of year, so be sure to review more than a few months worth of statements. Most utilities are able to provide you with your annual energy consumption.
